Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.”
There is a popular idiom that says, “what you don’t know can’t hurt you.” However, careful study of the scriptures suggests the opposite, particularly when it comes to the relationship between knowledge and the blessing of God. The Lord was emphatic in his declaration in Hosea 4:6a that, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge;”_ and again in John 8:31-32, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”_
We live in an era in Christianity that is marked by an inordinate desire for material possessions, and oftentimes, Christian gatherings are packed with multitudes of people seeking for diverse kinds of things described as blessings. It is undeniable that these tangible blessings are necessary means to live the abundant life on earth. However, the word of God makes us understand that there is the existence of an intangible “blessing” that has the divine capability of producing these tangible blessings that are highly sought for by the world. This intangible or invisible blessing is what God made available to the father of faith, Abraham, when he was called to be the progenitor of generations of blessed people on the earth.
In Genesis 12:1-2, scripture says, “Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing.”
Abram, whose name was changed to Abraham, was divinely set up not to be chasing others for blessings, or only to be a channel of blessing, but to become a repository of blessing from whom others would be blessed.
This singular intangible “blessing” that is distinct from the other kinds of blessings known to mankind was solidified by an infallible promise and an oath of God through the everlasting, indissoluble covenant cut between Abraham and God. In our scripture reading for today, the Apostle Paul referred to this “blessing” as the “Blessing of Abraham.”
This is the kind of blessing that thrives in every geographic location, era, governmental structure, and time zone on the earth. It is the “blessing” that was carefully passed on by divine instruction from Abraham to Isaac; Isaac to Jacob; Jacob to Joseph, Judah and Israel; and successive generations with a paradigm shift to the Lord Jesus Christ, who did not have the DNA of Abraham, but became the Firstborn of a spiritual line of descendants of Abraham through faith. Scriptures declare that Ishmael and the other sons of Abraham were also blessed, but that unique blessing of Abraham was passed on to Isaac, and the same transpired between the sons of Isaac with Jacob inheriting the blessing.
It is your turn to inherit and operate fully in this “Generational Blessing.”You are not supposed to only be a channel of blessing. You are also a depot or storehouse of blessing. This is your divine inheritance through Jesus Christ. Receive that inheritance and through faith, may your storehouse be continually filled with every kind of blessing needed by all those who will come into your circle of influence. Yes, what you don’t know will hurt you. Do not have an identity crisis. You are an heir to this Generational Blessing of Abraham. You are blessed to be a blessing to all those that you encounter from now onwards. You are an Oasis of Blessing!
