We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Thessalonians 1:3 NIV
There are three things that will always stir up and arouse a church or people to function effectively for God.
1. Work produced by faith.
A strong faith stirs, arouses, activates and energizes believers to work and carry out the mission of Christ.
above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.
Ephesians 6:16 NKJV
What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
James 2:14-17 NKJV
For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
I John 5:4-5 NKJV
2. Labor prompted by Love
When a person truly loves Christ, he is prompted and driven to arduously labour for Christ.
The believer driven by love is the believer who has really seen the love of Christ.
He is always conscious that Christ has taken his sin upon Himself and borne the punishment for them.
He knows he is so short of the glory of God hence he does all he can to please Christ and to fulfill the joy of Christ.
This is what Paul meant when he said Christ’s love compels me to serve Him.
For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.
2 Corinthians 5:14-15 NIV
Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
Romans 13:8-10 NIV
3. Endurance through Hope
Hope in the Lord Jesus stirs the church and her members to endure the present conditions and look to the future.
This means steadfastness and perseverance because we know Christ will;
– guide us
– provide for us
– deliver us
– strengthen us
– sustain us
– bless us.
And above all, we know the Lord is going to transfer us into heaven at the end of our life and reward us according to our work and labour of love.
For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.
Romans 15:4 NIV
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.
1 Peter 1:3-5 NIV
God bless you.
